about

"A symphony must be like the world; it must contain everything." - Gustav Mahler

"Though the light of the moon is wide and great, it is reflected even in an inch of water. The whole moon and the whole sky are reflected in a dewdrop on a blade of grass and are reflected in a single drop of water." - Eihei Dogen

Folding together influences from minimalism, German romanticism, Buddhist philosophy, quantum mechanics, and the Tao Te Ching, "A Scale Model of the Universe" takes as its core premise the concept that a human being is a microcosm of the entire universe. Utilizing short, repeating patterns that slowly morph with each iteration, the music attempts to mirror the ever-shifting nature of consciousness, which is itself a reflection of "outer" phenomena. While structured like a traditional four-movement symphony, the album attempts to subvert the ideological underpinnings of that form, and invites listeners to create their own meanings amidst the swirling loops.
